About 4-H Paws N Pals Dog Specialty Club

About Us

4-H Paws N Pals was the creation of a couple of moms who love dogs, love technology, love their kids, and wanted a 4-H club like the one they belonged to when they were kids. The result is Allegany County Maryland's newest 4-H specialty club.

I use my HEAD for clearer thinking, my HEART for building friendships, my HANDS for volunteering, and my HEALTH for living naturally.

4-H Paws N Pals is made up of volunteers and kids who love dogs and technology. Our 4-H club is a specialty club that focuses on these two diverse projects. On one side we have the 4-H dog project. Members will start with basic obedience training with their adult dog or puppy, working toward the AKC Canine Good Citizen test certification. Once CGC has been accomplished and basic obedience has been established, members will then have the opportunity to get involved with a variety of dog sports and events. Whether agility is your dog's thing or therapy dog work, canine freestyle or Rally-O, there are plenty of dog related activities to choose from. 4-H'ers with eligible dogs can compete in Junior Showmanship and enter the world of dog shows. To help 4-H'ers learn about dogs and dog related facts, there is the Dog Quiz Bowl. This team competition is played like Jeopardy with all questions being dog related. This competition goes to a state level match in October. Community service is a large part of 4-H and the dog project has many opportunities for volunteering in and around our area. Even if members don't have a dog, 4-H offers the Lease A Dog Program so that youth can experience the wonder of bonding with a dog.

On the other side of our club is technology, the internet, and ecommerce. 4-H Paws N Pals will be operating a full time web site and online ecommerce site. The club will use revenue generated from the web site and other local fundraising activities to fund trips, events, seminars, and activities related to dogs and technology. 4-H'ers will take active roles in the marketing of the web site, distribution of products, sales, and the basics of how to run a business. If you child has the entrepreneur spirit, this is the place they will want to be.

Monthly meetings of the entire club will take place the 4th Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Washington Street Library. Other dog related and web site related meetings will be held for members on specific committees or with specific offices. Parent volunteers are welcome to help with our activities. If you have time you would like to volunteer, please email us.
