Dog Agility

Dog agility is a fast paced sport for handler and dog through an obstacle course. The race is for accuracy and for the fastest time. The dog is directed, off-leash through the course by its handler without any treats or incentives. Agility courses feature the teeter- totter, tunnels, jumps, hurdles, dogwalks, and weave poles. Agility is recognized by the AKC.

In Agility 4-H'ers use their HEADS in critical thinking, their HEARTS in nurturing their dogs, their HANDS in teamwork, and their HEALTH to navigate the course.

Canine agility is a fabulous dog sport for juniors and adults that combines critical thinking skills, physical conditioning and teamwork. Canine agility is recognized by the AKC which offers standard class, jumpers with weaves, and fast classes. Each class offers various levels of difficulty ranging from novice to open to excellent to master titles. Juniors compete at four levels in this competition: beginner, elementary, intermediate, and senior.

Dog agility is open to dogs of all breeds. As one of the fastest growing dog sports in the United States, canine agility is fast, fun, and "furr-ious". Dogs run through, in, and around a variety of obstacles. Handlers run with their dogs and direct them where to go. Courses will change with each competition. Handlers are allowed a walk through of the course before the competition begins.
